Testing and purging form a critical part of ensuring a gas installation is safe before it is brought into use or taken permanently out of service. Where new pipework has been installed or existing pipework has been modified, strength testing is carried out first to confirm the integrity of the installation, followed by tightness testing prior to introducing gas.
Once testing has been successfully completed, controlled purging operations are undertaken to safely introduce or remove gas from the pipework as required. Purging is carried out in a safe manner, away from sources of ignition and in suitable locations, using approved methods to ensure gas is safely dispersed.
All testing and purging works are completed in accordance with IGE/UP/1 (IGUP1) guidance and current industry best practice, with safety as the priority at every stage. As part of this process, Atlas Gas issues CP16 Gas Safety Certificates where required, providing confirmation that the installation has been tested, purged and commissioned in line with current regulations.
