Atlas Gas provides commercial gas testing, purging, and CP16 certification services for businesses, contractors, and property owners. Whether gas needs to be introduced into a newly installed system, restored following building works, or safely removed during decommissioning linked to alterations, strip outs, or demolition, our qualified engineers manage the entire process carefully and in accordance with current regulations.
Testing and purging play an important role in confirming that a gas installation is safe before it is either brought into operation or permanently taken out of service. When new pipework has been installed, or existing pipework has been modified, a strength test is completed first to assess the integrity of the system. Following this, a tightness test is carried out to confirm there are no leaks before gas is introduced into the pipework.
Once testing has been successfully completed and the results are confirmed as satisfactory, controlled purging procedures are undertaken to either introduce gas into the pipework or remove it, depending on the needs of the project. Purging is carried out with care in suitable locations, well clear of ignition sources, and follows recognised methods to ensure the gas is dispersed safely.
All testing and purging work is completed in accordance with IGE/UP/1 (IGUP1) guidance and current industry best practice, with safety remaining the priority throughout the process. Where required, Atlas Gas also issues CP16 Gas Safety Certificates to confirm that the installation has been properly tested, purged, and commissioned in line with the relevant regulations.
